Where To Buy Beans In Bulk

Want to buy 100 pounds of navy beans. Local Sam's Club has rice but no beans. What national store sells them in 25Lb+ bags for a reasonable price? Will buy online as last resort...

Exactly. This place has them by the box. I always thought that you had to be a member to go there but one day I saw a sign that said open to public. I went in there. They are not as cheap, but they have higher quality in most cases, and they have things Sams doesn't. You can get ingredients to make your own soda there too.

in the seattle area we have what is called, "cash and carry". it's a bulk distributor to mainly restaraunts, but anyone can use it. they carry 25 lb bags of rice, beans (pinto, black, red, etc..) lentils (red, yellow) and other stuff. i have filled my garage with their goods and costco's.

Today our local UGO (United Grocery Outlet) had a sale on one-pound bags of dried pinto and navy beans for 39 cents each. I bought all they had, 102 bags. While I was unloading the shelf an older couple walked up and asked if I was going to take them all. I said yep but I stepped back and told them to get what they wanted. They took ten bags. When I got to the cashier she said she had already gotten 24 bags. We talked about the coming food shortage, she was savvy.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Another place to find bulk beans are the Mexican grocery stores in your area. They usually have 50 pound bags.

That's true. But, then, there are individual tastes. My roommate doesn't care for beans. Period. I'm harvesting fresh green beans every day from the garden and he won't touch them. I steam them with a little red bell pepper so they aren't over-cooked. I've served them with bacon crumbles, sauted almonds, celery salt and chicken bullion--everything I can think of. He'd rather have a can of V-8.

Tonight, I have some dried peas soaking. They were originally intended for planting; but now that they're past their prime I'm going to turn them into pea soup tomorrow. That'll probably be a bust too.

Phone up a good local natural food store and ask about a special bulk order. They might ask for a credit card to make sure you follow through.

From my experience do it over the phone. If you stroll into the store you will never find the person who can take care of you

Also a local supermarket may be willing to give you a discount on packaged beans in their 1lb bags that will end up very cheap

I have seen 5lb bags of Pinto beans in Hispanic oriented stores

I like to mix em with rice. It adds a bit to the flavor, and is supposed to neutralize the gas that comes from the beans to an extent.

Re: Where To Buy Beans In Bulk

get on craig's list re beans/wheat/shelled corn, or other veggies ; directly from a local farmer!

often pennies for the pound when by the bushel.

also get the last season grain/bean that is needing to be sold as a new crop is needing that storage space. the price is very good as they need to sell. for example wheat harvested in the late spring/summer is being sold to make room for soybeans/corn. & ad may say seed wheat for example as it is being planted soon, but it is the same as wheat for normal use, & not a hybrid, GMO, etc.

i haven't seen any pinto/lentils, etc. for my area though it is a little early; so thanks for the other info.

Re: Where To Buy Beans In Bulk

I get to know the bulk foods manager at the grocery store I want to buy from. You should get a bulk discount of about 10%. Then I place a specific order for the different items I want, it has to be grown domestically and organic. Last buy, I picked up 425 pounds of different organic beans, rice and oats from Whole Foods for $350. Some of the items happened to be on sale, so they added the sale price on top of the discount. The only downside is the questions and stares from everyone as you push several hundred pounds of food out the door. :ok:

I remember reading somewhere if you soak your beans overnight and pour off the water it reduces gas..

I don't know if that true but if we have to bug out and are stuck in tight quarter tents bean farts could be a problem.:hissyfit_m:

Walmart's that have grocery stores can be pretty good. They have 5lb bags of pintos at a bulk price. I think I saw other 5lb beans too
If there are no Spanish people where you live then your WalMart may not have this

I buy my bulk foods from the Mormons. See if they have an outlet near you.

EDIT:

25lb bags of beans are about $15.
25lb bags of wheat ar under $6.

I like almost every kind of bean, from navy beans to garbanzos! The only one I don't like is black eyed peas. My favorite is different kinds of bean salads.

Re: Where To Buy Beans In Bulk

I just got two 25lb bags of 16 bean mix at honeyville (local store, but I think they have it online) as well as a 25lb bag of black beans. Already have a 25lb bag of navy beans stored.

You can check online at www.honeyvillegrain.com. They may be significantly more expensive online because of shipping.

I paid $31 for the 25lb bag of bean mix, the black beans were $27 for the 25lb bag at the local store.

You can prolly find 1lb bags cheaper on sale like mntman did, but there were no sales and I had the money now so I got them now. You won't care how much you paid for them when that's all you have to eat...

But are eating them too with the bad economy

Ate some chickpeas today
